Car accidents happen on a daily basis. Unless you use public transit frequently, you likely aren’t aware of some of the dangers that are involved. Recently, a truck smashed into the side of a commuter bus traveling in Syracuse, New York on January 19. While multiple passengers were injured in the accident, none of them were in serious condition. The bus driver was treated for chest pain at a nearby hospital. The passenger of the pickup truck, seventy-five-year-old Jerrie Brownell, was also sent to the hospital for treatment of chest pain. Her husband and the driver of the pickup truck, eighty-two-year-old Neil Brownell, did not receive any injuries from the accident.   Fortunately No Fatalities Police have stated that based on the footage from the accident, it is amazing that no one was seriously injured or died from it. Brownell had swerved into the left lane in an attempt...

Four women have died after the limousine in which they were traveling attempted to make an illegal U-turn and crashed. The accident happened in Cutchogue, near Riverhead, New York, in July of 2015. Brittney Schulman, Lauren Baruch, Amy Grabina, and Stephanie Belli were all killed in the crash at the scene. The accident was caused by a variety of contributing factors, making determining fault very difficult. Not only did the limousine driver make an illegal U-turn, but the driver of an involved pickup truck was also driving under the influence when the crash occurred.   New York Safety Regulations Questioned The accident spurred the creation of a 156-page safety report questioning the safety regulations surrounding New York’s many limousines and how conditions could be improved. The report called into question the fact that many limousines don’t have (or don’t use) safety features like seat belts, side-impact airbags,...

If not, you could be placing yourself at significant financial risk every time you call a car to pick you up.   Profits over Consumer Health Uber’s goal in enacting this change is to protect itself from personal injury lawsuits in situations where the Uber driver is at fault. Unfortunately, arbitration almost always favors the company over the victim, and by agreeing to the new terms of service, you’re more likely to find yourself without compensation if an accident occurs. A legal loophole previously made it possible to refuse or deny the arbitration agreement if you desired. Prior to the changes to the terms of service, a decision made by a judge ruled that Uber didn’t make...
